Broaddus Planning has been asked by the Meadows Center to prepare a feasibility study for a study area around the Meadows Center that focuses on visitor experience improvements. The project scope includes an assessment of existing conditions and prior planning studies, understanding the relationship of the Meadows Center with the other welcome/entry points to the university, the establishment of constraints and potential opportunities, and exploration of feasibility for potential visitor experience improvements. Broaddus Planning will work in close cooperation with Texas State and Meadows Center representatives in the creation of this feasibility study, and engage community stakeholders as appropriate.

Meadows Center Strategy: A new vision for the visitor, student, researcher and diver.
Meadows Center site combines unique environmental, cultural, educational and research opportunities – as well as challenges – that demand rigorous guiding principles for the study and any future use of the site. The strategy is the overarching aim of Meadows Center.
A strategy for the Meadows center is currently being drafted and will be based on the following three core elements:
- Preservation and stewardship of the site ‐ we understand the global environmental/cultural/historic significance of the site.
- Maintaining a role as an economic development and visitor draw – as part of the City of San Marcos
- Enhancing the site as a campus and community amenity ‐ identifying and building on opportunities to the university which are not currently being leveraged to their best extent.
Within this strategy there is also a need to think more specifically about the vision for the visitor experience at the Meadows Center including the messaging, information and facilities that visitors to the Meadows Center will encounter. The vision should set the aspiration for the quality of experience that visitors should expect from a visit to the Meadows Center
- To inform the public about the natural and cultural resources found in and around the San Marcos River
- To educate the public on how to protect and preserve these important resources
- To raise awareness of the research efforts regarding resources found in Spring Lake and the San Marcos River and the globally significant work of the university
- To support and enhance public recreation and responsible use of the site
- To provide an easily navigable, accessible and welcoming environment for all visitors.
